📖 WHY JESUS CHRIST IS THE CENTRE OF THE GOSPEL

Jesus Christ

Is your understanding of the Gospel centred on Jesus Christ—or have you made it all about what you want Him to do for you?

One of the most important truths every Christian must understand is this: The Gospel is not primarily about our dreams, our breakthroughs, our success, or our personal ambitions. The Gospel is about Jesus Christ—who He is, what He accomplished through His death and resurrection, and the salvation God offers through Him.

Our needs matter to God, but our needs are not the centre of the Gospel. Jesus Christ is.

📖 1. THE GOSPEL IS THE GOOD NEWS ABOUT JESUS CHRIST

Paul summarises the Gospel in 1 Corinthians 15:3–4: Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, was buried, and was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.

Notice the foundation: His death, His burial, and His resurrection.

Jesus did not come merely to make our earthly lives more comfortable. He came to save sinners, reconcile us to God, and bring us into the life God offers through Him.

Romans 5:8 declares that God demonstrated His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

The Gospel begins with what God has done through Jesus—not with what we can do to earn His acceptance.

📖 2. JESUS IS NOT JUST A WAY TO GET BLESSINGS—HE IS THE SAVIOUR

In John 14:6, Jesus said:

“I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (KJV)

Jesus did not present Himself merely as a teacher who could help people improve their circumstances. He declared Himself to be the way to the Father.

This means Christianity is not simply a collection of motivational principles, religious activities, or promises of material prosperity. It is a relationship with God made possible through Jesus Christ.

Prayer, healing, provision, wisdom, and peace are important subjects in Christian life. But none of them should replace the central message of salvation through Christ.

We must not reduce Jesus to someone we approach only when we need something. We come to Him because He is Lord and Saviour, worthy of our faith, love, worship, and obedience.

📖 3. THE CROSS REVEALS BOTH GOD’S LOVE AND THE SERIOUSNESS OF SIN

The death of Jesus was not an accident or merely an example of human cruelty. According to Scripture, Christ gave Himself for our sins.

Through His sacrifice, God provides forgiveness and reconciliation for those who believe in Him.

The cross reveals the seriousness of sin, because our salvation required Christ's sacrifice. It also reveals the depth of God's love, because He did not leave humanity without hope.

Yet the Gospel does not end at the cross.

📖 4. THE RESURRECTION CHANGES EVERYTHING

In 1 Corinthians 15:17, Paul explains that if Christ has not been raised, faith is futile and believers remain in their sins.

The resurrection is not an optional detail of Christianity. It is central to the Christian message.

Jesus rose from the dead, and His resurrection is the foundation of our hope in His victory over death.

Because Christ lives, believers have a living hope. We are called to walk in newness of life, turn away from sin, and live in anticipation of God's promised future.

Christianity is not merely remembering a dead teacher. It is trusting and following the risen Lord Jesus Christ.

📖 5. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR YOUR DAILY LIFE?

If Jesus Christ is truly the centre of the Gospel, He must also be central to how we live.

Ask yourself:

• Does my faith rest on Jesus Christ and His finished work, or only on whether my prayers are answered the way I expect?

• Do I seek to obey Christ, or do I only seek promises that support my personal desires?

• Does the Gospel shape how I treat my family, forgive others, speak truth, handle money, and respond to difficulties?

• Am I growing in the character of Christ, or am I measuring spiritual maturity only by outward success and experiences?

These questions are not additional commandments from a personal impression. They are practical reflections drawn from the New Testament's teaching that faith in Christ should shape our lives.

Ephesians 2:8–10 teaches that we are saved by grace through faith, not by our works, and that we are created in Christ Jesus for good works.

We do not obey God to purchase salvation. We respond to His grace by living in the new life He gives us.

📖 6. LET US PREACH JESUS, NOT PERSONAL OPINIONS AS GOD’S WORD

We must also be careful about how we teach the Gospel.

There is a difference between what Scripture explicitly teaches, how we interpret a passage, and how we apply its truth to a particular situation.

For example, Scripture clearly teaches that Christ died for our sins and rose again. But if someone claims, “God told me that every person who follows my instructions will become wealthy,” that personal claim must not be presented as though it were a universal promise from Scripture.

Our spiritual experiences and opinions must never take the place of God's revealed Word.

The apostles proclaimed Jesus Christ. Our responsibility is to keep the same Gospel at the centre of our teaching—not to replace it with fear, manipulation, sensational claims, or promises God has not made.

The purpose of biblical teaching is not to make people dependent on a preacher's opinions. It is to help them know Jesus Christ, understand Scripture, and follow Him faithfully.

🙏 A MOMENT FOR REFLECTION

If someone asked you, “What is the Gospel?” could you explain it clearly without making the message mainly about money, success, miracles, or personal breakthroughs?

Take time today to read 1 Corinthians 15:1–4, Romans 5:6–11, and Ephesians 2:1–10.

Ask God for wisdom to understand His Word, faith to trust in Christ, and grace to live out the truth you learn.
