I’ve meet with different kinds of individuals both offline and online. On my interaction with many, it’s quite obvious that some doesn’t know or understand what worship is and how to worship God. It’s good you understand that praise is not worship. Worship is more internal than praise. Anything you do outwardly with your body is praise, not worship.
Worship is spirit-to-spirit communication, and not a vocal expression. The word “worship” means INTIMACY —- and it’s beyond singing, dancing, or speaking in tongues. WORSHIP IS HEART’S CONDITION OR POSITION OF MAN TOWARDS GOD. Worship is a spirit thing.
The Lord Jesus, throwing light on this matter, stated that worship is spiritual. It’s a spiritual status. Hear Jesus:
But the hour cometh, and now is, when
true worshippers shall worship the Father
in Spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship Him. God is a Spirit and they that worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in truth (John 4:23-24).
The Jews used to go to Jerusalem or to the mountain to “bow down” to God. To them in the old covenant, that’s how they worship God. But the Lord Jesus is now saying that the demonstration of the physical body is not what worship is.
Lifting up of hands, praying, singing, clapping, bowing down, etc, can be liken as praising God but not worship. Worship is receiving God’s word in your spirit. Worship is believing that Jesus died and resurrected for your sin. Worship is faith in the finished work without a doubt. Worship is accepting, receiving, believing in the Lord Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. It is the condition of the heart involving your whole being. When you stick to God’s word on a matter, irrespective of the challenges at hand, you’re worshipping God. As your heart so sink with the Holy Spirit driven, that’s worship. When the totality of your heart has no fear, that’s worship.
Friends, worship denotes the heart agreement with God and His word. Worship is not praise — don’t confuse the two! Worship is spiritual, praise is physical. You can’t worship God by singing, praying or dancing — that’s to praise God. True worship always occur in the Spirit. Our spirit mingling with the Spirit of God. If God speaks to you and you receive His word, that’s worship. Accepting that you’re holy, sanctified, glorified, as a believer without your good works is worship. That’s why when religious folks ask me where I worship, I reply “in Spirit and in truth”, because there’s no physical place on earth to worship! Your heart position to God in every giving time is worship.
You can praise God from a distance, but you can’t worship God from a distance. Worship is an intimacy with God. It is bowing down of the heart to accept God’s word without reservations. Worship is not praise and praise is not worship. To worship God is awesome. Are you a true worshipper?
